Curriculum Intent
The Vyne's curriculum is ambitious and knowledge-rich, designed to provide all students with the essential knowledge, skills, and cultural capital needed to succeed in life. We are here to improve the opportunities of each of our students, to ensure they have the best academic outcomes along with a strong sense of pride and the skills to stay safe and happy for a fulfilling future. The curriculum is meticulously planned to build on prior learning from primary school and prepare students for public examinations, further education, and the world of work.
Key features of our curriculum intent include:
● Breadth and Balance: A curriculum that provides a wide range of subjects, ensuring all students are exposed to the core humanities, creative arts, and practical subjects, alongside the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) suite.
● High Expectations: An aspirational curriculum that is challenging for all students, including those with high prior attainment and those with special educational needs.
● Reading and Literacy: A school-wide focus on literacy to ensure all students are confident readers, writers, and communicators.
● Character and Personal Development: Opportunities for students to develop resilience, independence, and strong moral values, alongside academic learning.
Curriculum Implementation
Our curriculum is brought to life through high-quality teaching, informed by the latest research and evidence on effective pedagogy.
● Subject Expertise: All teachers are subject specialists, with a deep understanding of their curriculum area and a passion for their subject.
● Sequencing of Knowledge: The curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure new knowledge builds logically on what has been taught before, allowing students to make meaningful connections across subjects.
● Assessment for Learning: Regular and rigorous assessment, both formal and informal, is used to identify gaps in knowledge and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
● Metacognition and Self-Regulation: Students are explicitly taught how to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own learning, empowering them to become independent learners.
Impact and Outcomes
The success of our curriculum is measured not only by examination results but also by the students we send out into the world. Our curriculum aims to produce:
● High Attainment: Students who achieve excellent academic outcomes across the curriculum, with a strong Progress 8 score.
● Strong Destinations: Students who successfully transition to prestigious sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships, and universities, including Russell Group institutions.
● Well-Rounded Individuals: Students who are confident, articulate, and prepared to make a positive contribution to society.
