At The Vyne Community School, we have high aspirations for all students. We are proud to be an inclusive school where every pupil, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), is supported to achieve their full potential.
We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their starting point or individual needs, can access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. We work closely with parents, staff and external specialists to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.
High-quality classroom teaching is the foundation of our SEND provision. Through adaptive teaching and Quality First Teaching (QFT), teachers provide inclusive lessons that support a wide range of learning needs.
For most students with SEND, their needs are met within the classroom through:
● adaptive teaching strategies
● reasonable adjustments
● targeted support within lessons
All staff share responsibility for supporting students with SEND. Provision across the school is coordinated by our SENCo, Mrs Jo Williams.
The Vyne follows the Graduated Approach outlined in the SEND Code of Practice: Assess – Plan – Do – Review.
All students initially receive inclusive, high-quality teaching in the classroom. Where a student is not making expected progress, teachers may refer them to the SEND department for further assessment and support.
Students may receive short-term targeted interventions, often delivered in small groups. Wherever possible, interventions take place during tutor time to minimise disruption to curriculum learning.
If additional support is required, the SENCo may place the student on the SEND register. Students on the register have a Pupil Profile outlining their strengths, areas of need and support strategies. Where appropriate, we may seek advice from external agencies to ensure the most effective support is in place.
The SEND department in conjunction with our Inclusion team provides a range of interventions to support students with:
● Cognition and learning
● Communication and interaction
● Sensory and physical needs
● Social, emotional and mental health
Specialist support is prioritised for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those requiring more targeted provision to access mainstream education.
